Specified VMQ requirement
Share the drawing, dimensions, compound designation and required documentation. A silicone material name alone does not identify the complete product specification.

01 / VMQ REQUIREMENTS
Share the drawing, dimensions, compound designation and required documentation. A silicone material name alone does not identify the complete product specification.
Include the current material or part reference, service conditions and reason for replacement. An alternative is not assumed equivalent simply because it is also silicone.
02 / VMQ REQUIREMENTS
VMQ silicone rubber is often considered for sealing applications requiring good heat resistance, low-temperature flexibility, and resistance to ozone, weathering and UV exposure.
These characteristics make VMQ worth evaluating for selected static sealing applications. The operating temperature range, compression behaviour and service life depend on the specific compound and actual operating conditions.
VMQ (silicone) and FVMQ (fluorosilicone) are different material directions. Similar names do not establish equivalent media compatibility, operating limits or replacement suitability.
FVMQ may be worth evaluating when low-temperature flexibility and resistance to selected fuels or oils are required together. The specific compound and sealing conditions must be reviewed before recommending an alternative.
Certain VMQ formulations may be suitable for selected lubricating oils, but compatibility must be confirmed for the exact oil, additives, temperature and operating conditions.
VMQ should not be regarded as universally resistant to petroleum products. Hydrocarbon fuels, aromatic solvents and other aggressive media require particular caution.
Hot water and steam exposure must also be evaluated separately from dry-heat resistance. The specific medium, additives, temperature, pressure, duration and exposure frequency can affect suitability.
Conventional VMQ generally has lower tear strength and abrasion resistance than several other common sealing elastomers.
Static sealing is therefore a common starting point. Dynamic applications require additional review of motion, friction, lubrication, pressure, installation conditions and gland geometry.
VMQ generally has higher gas permeability than several other common sealing elastomers. This should be considered for gas retention, low-leakage and vacuum applications.
Review exact media, cleaning agents and lubricants together with the specific compound and available documentation. Continuous operation, cold starts and short exposures need separate consideration, including duration, frequency and temperature cycling.
Pressure, static or dynamic operation, gland geometry, compression and clearances are reviewed as parts of the sealing system. A material-family description alone does not establish finished-seal performance.
03 / VMQ REQUIREMENTS
If food contact is required, describe the intended use, target market, contact conditions and required documentation during the technical review. The specific compound and supporting documents must be confirmed separately; a silicone material name does not establish food-contact compliance.

06 / TECHNICAL REVIEW FAQ
VMQ silicone O-rings are often considered for their heat resistance, low-temperature flexibility, and resistance to ozone and weathering. They are particularly worth evaluating for static sealing applications where the media and mechanical conditions are suitable. Actual performance depends on the selected compound and sealing design.
Conventional VMQ generally has lower tear strength and abrasion resistance than several other common sealing elastomers, making static sealing a common starting point. Dynamic applications require careful review of movement, friction, lubrication, pressure, installation conditions and gland geometry. A general VMQ temperature range alone does not establish suitability for dynamic service.
Certain VMQ formulations may be suitable for selected lubricating oils, but VMQ should not be regarded as universally resistant to petroleum products. Hydrocarbon fuels, aromatic solvents and other aggressive media can present compatibility concerns. The exact medium, additives, temperature and exposure duration must be reviewed against the proposed compound.
Dry-heat resistance does not establish suitability for hot water or steam. The proposed compound must be reviewed against the actual temperature, pressure, duration and exposure cycles. Continuous hot-water exposure, pressurised steam and repeated cleaning require particular attention.
VMQ is often considered where heat resistance, low-temperature flexibility and environmental resistance are important. FVMQ may be worth evaluating when low-temperature performance and exposure to selected fuels or oils are required together. EPDM may be considered for certain water or steam applications, while FKM can be considered for selected oil, fuel and chemical environments. No material family is universally superior. Selection depends on the specific compound, media, temperature, mechanical requirements and sealing arrangement.
